You can adopt a classroom, school or school district. Sponsorship provides resources that otherwise would be unavailable. Programs are child-focused but also benefit the teachers and parents.

An average Latin American school is generally little more than a concrete bunker with chairs. Children wear simple uniforms to not expose the poverty of less fortunate students. Classes are only held four hours a day so that there can be at least two and sometimes three schools rotating through the same building.

In the rural schools most children arrive at school hungry. In the urban schools children also face huge challenges, besides hunger they often go by public transportation, have to cross busy intersections and deal with the vices of urban living alcohol, drugs, gangs and pregnancies.

It varies from country to country but the school dropout average across Latin America is extremely high. Drop-out rates are particularly high among girls because bathroom facilities are rare and inadequate. In some Central and South American countries a staggering number of 1 in a 1000 students who start first grade will end up with a bachelor's degree. Not to mention that there are many children that never even start first grade.
